Untapped Talent at workforce: Meaningful Recruitment Process of Autistic Candidates




The word of “autism” its been an often misunderstood diagnosis term in the world, The increased prevalence of adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) the unemployment rates are exceptionally high in the world because many adults with ASD don’t make it through the regular interview process or may not even apply for a job because they feel they won’t get hired (Johnson, et al., 2020).

 

having ASD workforce in an organization can help employers to reflect with the Innovative ideas eventually which will produce the best results to the organization (Fuller , 2020).

 

There are number of measures employers in order to recruiting ASD candidates however, According to Booth J (2016), suggested below steps while recruiting ASD Candidates.

•           Adherence to the Rules of the organization

•           Accuracy, close attention to details and the ability to identify errors

•           Technical ability such as IT 

 

 

Hindrance in Recruiting ASD employees to the organization:

 

•           Resumes are limited for Shortlisting 

•           Difficult in Communications   

•           Organization won’t gain immediate results 

•           Bullying , harassment & discrimination 

•           Expensive considering indirect cost 

In Global Context, Proactive organization like Microsoft launched an “Interview Academy” especially to recruit ASD candidates with effect of that recently Microsoft recruited 11 Super Talented ASD employees, Microsoft Autism hiring program also has registered Job bank email mautism@microsoft.com  (Warnick, 2016).

Furthermore famous Global organizations JP Morgan,HP,EY,Ford,DXC tech & SAP also implemented their own program to Recruit ASD candidates.

In a hindsight for choosing this topic to be an eye opener to local HRM’s to implement the recruiting process within their organizations, hence there local unemployment ratio increase among ASD adults..for sure ASD employees will be a value addition to an local organization and they will bring many inventions to the table.

  4. In my opinion, autism employees can be recruited into an organization and by using them properly the organization can get a productive service. Intense attention comes naturally to them, it can bring tremendous creativity to people with autism and they work when no one is waiting, in my opinion if those employees are hired for a company the human resource department should pay special attention to them.

  5. Specially in South Asian countries, ASD people count as a burden to the society. Most of the time we can see that they are not recognized from the society. By recruiting them as special 'powered', people to the organization, they also get benifited same as the company.
    It is really impressed to see sri Lankan companies also started recruiting ASD employees. That shows a 'green light' to other companies as well.

  10. ASD individuals are considered a burden to society, particularly in South Asian countries. Much of the time, we can see that the world does not remember them. They also profit from the same advantages as the corporation by hiring them as unique 'driven individuals into the organization. It is truly impressed that Sri Lankan businesses have also begun to employ ASD workers. That also gives other businesses a 'green light'. A very well executed candidate for ASD. It would be a great advantage to incorporate for local organizations. Well arranged notes.
